Depth of Field

I used a very shallow depth of field in this picture I took of Esther. I used depth of field to be able to focus clearly on her face and her smile. I wanted to incorporate the leaves and the tree in the background, but not have them be the main focus. I took this photo in the courtyard at Lincoln High School.

In this photo I used the technique of free lensing. This photo is a picture of the fibers on my sweatshirt. I really enjoyed this photo not only because of the free lensing, but I liked the contrast between the white and black fibers and how the front ones are extremely focused and the ones in the back are blurred.

In this photo I used a deep depth of field. I really like this picture because of how you're kind of seeing through the leaves to the trees. I also liked the contrast of the two different colors of green and the shadows on the leaves.

Assignment 5 - creative controls using motion

Slow Motion

In order to get this shot I had my brother swing back and forth on a swing we have across from my house. I took many, many shots everytime adjusting my aperture and iso differently until finally I got this shot. I think this shot was my strongest because the blur of the person and the stillness of the background really captures slow motion.

Freeze Action

In order to get this shot I leaned over the ledge of the fountain in pioneer square and tried different controls on my camera to try to get a really fast shot that would capture the water falling from the fountain. I think this shot was my strongest because I felt like especially on the end fountain I really captured the essence of the water falling in that moment.

Panning

In order to get this shot I had my brother run back and forth and each time he did I adjusted the controls on my camera differently. It took me a long time and many many shots to get this, but I finally acheived a successful shot. I think this is my strongest shot because though you can tell the subject is moving, he is more still and in focus unlike the background that's very blurry.

Total Motion

In order to get this shot I took multiple pictures of both of my brothers jumping up and down while adjusting the controls on my camera until I came up with shots that not only had the subject blurry but the background blurry. Then I went into photoshop and layered these photots into one. I think this is my strongest photo because although everything's blurry you can still see the motion of the people jumping and I also really like how your eye is drawn to the red in the middle of the picture.

Project 8 Stop-Motion Animation

Our stop motion video could not be found and uploaded from youtube to our blogs for some reason. It does not show up when searched. But here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXlu4gS5avk

Our stop motion video features chalk drawings on pavement. We called it "seasons" because it transfers from season to season.

Project 7: Photo Effects

This is my tilt shift photo. This was taken on top of the vista bridge looking down over Portland, Oregon. I edited it by boosting the contrast and saturation and obviously playing around with blurring different parts of the photo. The idea with the tilt shift technique is that you can blur the foreground and the background to create an effect similar to an actual tilt shift camera.

This is my Daguerreotype. This picture was taken looking up at a church in downtown Portland, Oregon. I edited this picture by "grunging" it up as much as possible, changing it to black a white, and placing a template over the picture to create the scratches and splotches seen. Then I added a frame around it. The idea with the Daguerreotype technique is to mimic that of an actual Daguerreotype photo that used to be taken decades ago. The point is to mimic an old effect and make it as "grunge" as possible.

Project 6: Multiple Image Techniques

Lincoln High School
This picture was taken on top of the Lincoln High School field. The technique I used was panorama. I took multiple pictures starting from the left side of the field and shooting across to the right side. Then in editing, I opened all the pictures to photoshop panoramic and merged them all together. I then warped it to crop out the ledge. I then edited the overall photo by boosting contrast and shadows and adjusting the exposure.

My Street
This picture was taken upon my deck on my street in Portland, OR. The technique I used was HDR. I took multiple pictures by adjusting the shutter speed on my camera and producing many pictures from  really light and really dark. In editing, I merged the clearest light photo with the clearest dark photo together to create a happy medium. From there I edited the radius and strength as well as the gamma and detail.

Street Signs
Both of these pictures were taken on street corners in the pearl district of Portland, OR. The technique I used was multiple exposure. I took pictures of different street signs because I thought it would look cool in the final product. In editing I went into photoshop and basically overlapped and merged the two photos. The one on the bottom shown through the top photo creating a multiple exposure effect. I then cropped the final photo and adjusted the curves, contrast, and exposure.

My best 15 photos from second quarter

Three photographs by a photographer I admire, Lara Jade

The three photographs below are from one of my favorite photographers, Lara Jade. Jade is a young photographers whose photographs are usually candid shots of young women that consist of some kind of fashion aspect. Her photos usually contain lots of color and interesting locations. I like Jade's work because I love fashion photography and she makes every one of her pictures enjoyable to look at and each one always seem to have a story to them that are left up to your interpretation.

This is one of my favorite Lara Jade photos. I love the different fashion aspects such as the gold shoes and the star leggings. I like the angle at which this photo was shot, she is obviously looking off at something and it leaves you wondering what she is looking at because you can only see a sliver of what is behind her.

This is another one of my favorites of Jade's photographs. Obviously the emphasis and focal point is on the girl, but there's so much going on behind her as well. I like how your eye is immediatley drawn to the girl, but if you really pay attention and look closey, there's a whole scene going on in the distance.

I enjoy the retro aspect of a portion of Jade's photographs. I like how each one of her photos focuses on a fasion statement as well. I think the unity in this photo is really cool. How the phone booth, the girl, the soda, and the fliers on the side just all come together with the damaged wall and the color of her dress and sunglasses.

My three best images from first quarter

This was take near the Cargo shop in downtown Portland. I really liked the contrast in this photo. I like how it's sort of mysterious looking through the crack and seeing the bright red door.

I personally really like this piece I took in pioneer square. It's always bee fascinating to me how it shows arrows pointing to so many places around the world even though they're so far away from Portland. I liked the colors used in this photo as well.

This was taken in downtown Portland by a shop called Cargo. I liked this photo because of the variety of colors. I also liked how it focuses on the pay to park sign but then behind it there's a whole scene going on and it gives you a glimpse into the city.
